Pointing to the man sitting next to her, the pastor said, ‘Please wake that lady up.’ The man replied, ‘Sorry, Pastor. You put her to sleep – you wake her up!’ Seriously, Paul tells us ‘the gospel…is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes’ (NKJV). The Greek word for ‘power’ is d u namis, from which we get the word dynamite. Talk about impact! The gospel changes people profoundly. Chuck Swindoll says: ‘The gospel is like a sword sharpened on the stone of Scripture and tempered in the furnace of reality, relevance, and need. He’s working all things out for your good 01 APRIL 2019 ‘And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him.’ Romans 8:28 NIV 0:00 Paul begins this verse by saying: ‘And we know.’ There are so many things in life we don’t know. We don’t know if the economy will dip or how our kids will turn out. We don’t even ‘know what we ought to pray for’ (v. 26 NIV 2011 Edition). But we can ‘know’ these four things: 1) ‘God works.’ Even though you can’t see Him, He’s busy behind the scenes. He hasn’t checked out or moved on. He’s ceaseless, tireless, and He never stops working. 2) ‘God works for the good.’ Not for our comfort, pleasure, or entertainment, but for our ultimate good. But then again, He is the ultimate good, so would you expect anything less? 3) ‘God works for the good of those who love Him.’ Behold the benefit of a loving God! That is taking all of the credit card debt and dividing it by the number of people. In reality, most people owe a lot more than that because not everyone has a credit card. I know a lot of you don’t live in the United States, but it is an excellent example of how much debt a person can have. The Apostle encourages us not t o owe anyone anything except the debt of love. ‭‭Romans‬ ‭13:8‬ Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law… 10 Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. In an effort to be heard we have to be louder and more controversial than the previous person. Social media has made it too easy to pounce on people you don’t agree with. It is rare when someone comes in and speaks with wisdom and even more unusual when the timing is right. A word wisely spoken is more valuable than silver or gold. ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭25:11‬ “A word spoken at the right time is like gold apples in silver settings.” The writer of this Proverb drops some much-needed wisdom on the world today. With words being thrown around carelessly to provoke or injure, the person who speaks wisdom at  the right time is a rarity. The selection of fruit and vegetables along with the unique crafts from vendors make it a unique experience. Fruit is a metaphor that is used in the Bible multiple times to represent growth and new life. When we are set free the snares of sin, we are set free to grow. Romans‬ ‭6:22‬ “But now, since you have been set free from sin and have become enslaved to God, you have your fruit, which results in sanctification — and the outcome is eternal life!” ‬ Set Free When we put our faith and trust in Jesus Christ, we are set free from the chains of sin. That doesn’t mean we won’t sin anymore, but the penalty of death that sin brings is broken. IS  IT  REAL  OR  IS  IT  FAKE  By Chuck Musselwhite  Is it real or is it fake? When a bank wants to teach a teller how to discern if money is counterfeit, they do so by having them handle a lot of real money. The teller’s hand becomes so sensitive to real money that when a counterfeit touches their fingertips, they automatically know it is a fake. The same thing goes for a believer. We don’t become an expert in false teachers or evil spirits by being around them but by immersing ourselves in God’s word and following the leading of the Holy Spirit.
